Spring and early summer are the busiest times of the year for crop insurers and ag service providers. Just when they are at their busiest, some of the best and brightest agricultural science students in the U.S. are wrapping up the school year. Thankfully, these students are keen to continue learning with hands-on internship experiences in real-world settings.
Three students from Purdue University’s agriculture programs will join the MyAgData team for planting report season. Nathan Blume, Morgan Lambrecht and Kyle Walker will assist crop insurance agents and service providers from May through July.
“We’ve brought them on board to help us grow the business and serve our customers,” says MyAgData CEO Deb Casurella. “This helps us scale and gives them experience in their field, so it’s a win-win for all of us.”
Before officially joining the MyAgData team, the interns traveled to the company’s test farm in Effingham, Ill., to watch corn planting and see the precision ag data collection process up close.
“MyAgData is showing me the continuous evolution of technology. It applies an innovative approach to the application of precision agriculture. I am proud to be a part of a company of genuine people that are cultivating cutting-edge technology,” intern Kyle Walker said.
Assigned to the field support team, the students will work with agents and service providers to train them on using the MyAgData program and support them as they complete their first acreage reports. In addition, they will field questions from incoming calls to the MyAgData support hotline.
“This opportunity with MyAgData has allowed me to truly understand the heights and direction precision agriculture is taking. I am incredibly excited to work with the MyAgData team and growers to continue delving this industry and identifying new possibilities,” intern Nathan Blume said.
